What is this site, and why did I create it?

Why, hello there, inquisitive speech bubble. I’m Anubhav. You might see my name in the front page. I made this site mainly because I figure I could use this page to articulate some of the things I think and just because I think it is cool to have an introductory page of yourself even when it is entirely pointless because you have zero things to actually introduce about yourself.

I am coming to believe that no one can truly be a good person if they have not at first been exposed to their own capacity for wrongdoing. I hope someday to head in that direction, when I can say that I used to be a bad person. When I was, so to speak, “untainted,” or rather, “untested,” I would carry a quiet superiority regarding my own “near perfection” when it came to morality. I believed that I was good because I had not yet been forced to see how easily I would fail. To quote John Steinbeck, “And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” I think I am having a much easier time being good upon finding out that not only am I not perfect, if I don’t hold myself back actively at all times, I’m actually a rather horrible person.

I am a hard determinist. If you don’t know what that is, hard determinism is a position which states that all choices, thoughts, and actions are deterministic products of factors beyond our control: genetics, environment, brain chemistry, and the precise state of every particle in the universe leading up to each moment. Put more simply, I believe that everything in the universe is determined by a causal chain that started at the first cause; no one has any true agency regarding who they are or what they do, and nothing within us is actually determined by ourselves.
